04/06/30 a.m. 35:00 run on the treadmill at the YWCA (~5.8k). AHR: 160; MHR: 169; Recovery: 45. Lap 1: 17:31; 157 AHR; Lap 2: 17:32; 164 AHR. So nice to have a more controlled running experience. Not. Boring, more like. But it does keep me at a good training heart rate, so I suffer them. Run went okay, nothing stellar. HR did start to climb at the end, even while keeping steady pace, so 30 minutes or so seems to be my current comfort limit.

04/06/29 a.m. 21:00 in the YWCA pool. Decided to practice two things this morning: 1. "Active Rest" (using a different stroke, or just kicking slowly in the lane upside-down); and 2. Breathing on alternating sides. It worked well. On the first one, instead of hugging the wall between each set, I stayed moving. Practiced my back stroke, practiced my flutter kick. On the second, I just felt much more 'in charge' of the swim, if that makes sense. Before I was doing two strokes and breathing, and it felt like I was breathing too quickly and not getting enough air in. This morning I'd breathe on the right, do two full strokes in between, then breathe on the left (left arm out & breathe; right; left; right & breathe). I felt more controlled, less panicky about breathing, and just generally better about my form. No question, my form needs help, but this felt better than the breathing all on one side I was doing before. Coolness.

04/06/27 a.m. 37:42 run in RCP (~5k). AHR: 168; MHR: 176; Recovery: 39. Lap 1: 17:37; 167 AHR; Lap 2: 20:05; 170 AHR. First run in the park on the trail since I broke my ankle last October 6th. Not exactly a triumphant return, but it wasn't too bad. As expected, I started out too quickly (hence the 176 MHR), and had to slow down considerably for the second lap (the uphill half!). Nice day out, not too humid. Was slower, of course, than I like to think of myself as being, but that's okay, it'll come back.

04/06/26 a.m. 1:00:00 in the Hains Point pool. Workout with the DC Aquatics Club this morning, after biking down to the Point (~45 minutes, including time to deal with a flat tire). Was a good, challenging workout, and just showed how far I have to go. I'll get there, though. Pool was longer than I'm used to (50 meters, versus 25 at the YWCA). I need to re-learn to flip-turn, but not until I've got a bit more endurance built up, I think. A later lesson, then. Will put this on the schedule, and sign up with DCAC; I think this is a good thing for my workouts.

04/06/25 a.m. 35:00 on the exercise bike at the YWCA. Quiet workout, took a book with me, so concentrated on that while I peddaled and listened to the iPod. Did just fine, nothing momentous.

04/06/22 a.m. 35:00 on the YWCA treadmill. 30 minute run, 5 minute cooldown. Standard run, no surprises.

04/06/13 a.m. 27:00 in the YWCA pool. Gradually increasing the number of lengths I can do at a time without rest (from one to two!). Oy. I'm getting there, it's just slower than I'd like it to be. No matter, I'll plod along and I will get to do a triathlon. And I'll even like the swim portion. ;-)

04/06/11 a.m. 20:00 in the YWCA pool, 20:00 on weights. Had to cut the weights short, my body just wasn't into it. S'okay, I'll live, and cutting it short is smarter than continuing if my body is saying "stop!" The swim was okay, nothing stellar.

04/06/09 a.m. 45:00 on the exercise bike, 35:00 on the treadmill at the YWCA. Did the full planned workout this morning. Will need to get started about 15 minutes earlier if I'm to make it to jury duty on time next time I do this one, but it worked out well. Was not too tired at the end, and no stopping was necessary to readjust the shoes.

04/06/01 a.m. 35:00 on the YWCA treadmill. 30 minute run, 5 minute cooldown. Was supposed to swim, but the nose is being icky, so no ickiness in the water, thankyouverymuch. Run went really well. I did forget to put on blody glide (oops!) and my right foot was getting a little hot spot on the arch, but I'll survive. The run felt really good, too. I've missed it. Kicked up the pace by 1/2 a minute - from 11:00 miles to 10:30 miles. Did well at that pace, so that may become the new default. We'll see.
